So, you’re ready to make the switch from cigarettes to vaping. Wonderful and welcome!
Making the switch is easy but there are definitely a few tips that you need to know first. This article offers some helpful suggestions and fun new words to maximize your initial user experience.
Inhale and Exhale for beginners MTL vs DTL
INHALE
Let’s begin with inhale. The best way to inhale a vape is pre-determined by the product manufacturer. There are basically two types of methods: mouth-to-lung vapes, and direct-to-lung vapes. Mouth-to-lung vapes feels like a cigarette draw. Direct-to-lung vapes are like taking a deep breath and blowing it out. The distinction’s critical because if you inhale incorrectly, you may end up coughing or getting an unwanted rush of nicotine. Also, this knowledge will help you select the best device for your personal preferences and begin to understand industry lingo.
Mouth-to-lung
Mouth-to-lung vapes are smaller vapes with high nicotine like the JUUL or MYLE. The airflow will feel restricted and it is designed to mimic the feeling of puffing on a cigarette. Restricted airflow feels sort of like trying to sip on a frozen milkshake. That’s the best way I can describe the sensation. You basically create tight suction using your lips, but this is a two-step process. You initiate this transaction by slowly drawing the vapor into your mouth for a few seconds. Mouth first, then inhale into your lungs. This technique will be the most innate and familiar to a smoker.
Direct-to-lung
Direct-to-lung is exactly what it sounds like, but there are a few vital things to note. Pulling vapor straight into your lungs, bypassing drawing it into your mouth first, allows for more momentum and, thus, airflow. This process is similar to using an inhaler. The best devices to accommodate longer hits offer less restricted airflow and are often larger and more powerful. These devices are for producing bigger clouds of vapor. The larger volume of vapor allows more flavor delivery. Intended for higher temperatures, they use larger wattage output and lower nicotine levels. Make sure not to hold it in. Breathe in and out. It took me time to adjust to this method, so I recommend starting with MTL before attempting DTL.
